"NU Chapter's History"
Founded: March 15, 1921 at Pennsylvania State University
The
thirteenth chapter
of the
Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.
was founded at the Pennsylvania State University on March 15,
1921. Nu Chapter was the
first black organization at the university,
founded by eight men. These
eight men
happened to be the
entire black population
at that time. Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., Nu Chapter
had a helping hand in the starting of most organizations on the
Penn State University Park campus. A few distinguishing Nu
Chapter brothers are Astronaut Guion Bluford, football player
Lydell Mitchell, Lawyer Honorable Julian Cook, and
Engineer Benson L. Dutton.
For the past 85 years, the chapter has enjoyed on illustrious
history, inclusive of high scholastic achievement, strong
leadership, athletic prowess, and cultural awareness. The
Nu Chapter projects and programs include The Miss Black Penn
State Pageant, The Black Male Summit, donations to the United
Negro College Fund, annual food drives, national high school
essay contests and other programs.
Nu Chapter has now been in existence for over 80 years-imagine
the history that the brothers, who compose it, have created.
Our organization seeks to continue to bring positive black men
into the fold of Omega in a constant quest of Friendship,
leadership, responsibility, and Love.
