Past Second District - District Representatives
History of 2nd District Representatives
A recount of history from former Grand Basileus Avery.
In the early years of the fraternity there were no such thing as
districts. I suspect the reason was the fraternity had not grown to
where they were necessary. It was in 1923 that then Grand Basileus,
Brother J. Alston Atkins, appointed district representatives. At the
time, he had the responsibility for the entire fraternity. When Omega
began to grow that is when I think Brother Atkins felt he could not
manage things alone. I am not sure but the Dreer History book may
indicate the district areas involved. Anyway, it was not until 1946 that
there was a Second District Representative. His name was Mifflin Gibbs
out of Mu Omega in Philadelphia. I know he was first appointed in
1946.. He was elected to that office in 1947. Brother Ermon Jones was apparently the 1st Vice DR in 1957 unless he had taken the
place of Brother Brooks by then because he initiated me. Brother
Brooks may have been sick, out of office or for some reason not being
the DR doing the initiations. Bro. Jones became DR in 1959.
