Claudie M.
Shelton, Jr.
Brother Claudie M. Shelton, Jr., the oldest of five children
born to Claudie M. and Carrie M. Shelton, Sr., was born and raised in Chester, South
Carolina. He
is a product of the Chester County Public School System, graduating in 1972
from Chester Senior High School. Brother Shelton attended South Carolina State
College (SCSC), Orangeburg,
South Carolina, where he
graduated in 1976 as a Distinguished Military Graduate and a Second Lieutenant
in the United States Army, holding a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology.
Upon graduating, Brother Shelton entered the US Army in May
1976, as a Medical Service Corps Officer, assigned as the Clearing Platoon
Leader, Company B, 197th Support Battalion, 197th Infantry Brigade (Separate), Fort Benning, Georgia. In addition to Fort Benning, Georgia, he was
assigned to and had tours at Headquarters, Health Service Command, Fort Sam
Houston, Texas; the 97th General Hospital, Frankfurt, Germany; the Defense
Personnel Support Center, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; the US Army Medical
Materiel Center (USAMMA), Fort Detrick, Maryland; the 6th Theater Medical
Materiel Management Center, Fort Detrick; and Headquarters, US Army Medical
Research and Materiel Command, Fort Detrick.
During his 20 years of service to the Nation, he attended several
service schools, graduated Command and General Staff College, completed a
Master of Arts Degree program at Webster University (Management and Computer
Data Management) and a Master of Science Degree program at the Florida
Institute of Technology (Logistics Management); and deployed during Operation
Desert Shield/Desert Storm (Southwest Asia) and Operation Uphold Democracy
(Haiti). He received numerous military awards and decorations including, the
Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the [Army] Meritorious
Service Medal (2), and the Joint Service Commendation Medal. Brother Shelton retired from the Army at Fort Detrick
in 1996. He is currently employed at the
USAMMA as the Program Manager, Centralized Medical Potency and Dated Materiel,
responsible for providing medical materiel unit deployment packages in support
of Army contingencies, homeland defense, and humanitarian relief efforts.
During Brother Shelton’s freshman year at SCSC, now South Carolina State University,
he was exposed to Greek life and organizations and became interested in Omega
Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. He became Lamp
16 of the Xi Psi Chapter’s Lampodos Clubs, WATERGATE 28, and was initiated
November 29, 1973. As a member of Xi Psi
Chapter, he was Dean of Pledges and a member of several Chapter committees. Brother Shelton has been an active member of
Omega Psi Phi, Fraternity, Inc. since being initiated in 1973 and is Life
Member 2901. Brother Shelton showed an
early interest in managing money as far back as a Junior Church Trustee at the
church of his youth in South Carolina. Although, he has served on many committees in
the Chapters he has been involved with, most notably he has been the Keeper of
Finance in Theta Rho Chapter (2 years), Nu Nu Chapter (2 years), and Alpha
Lambda Lambda Chapter (3 years). Brother
Shelton is a 2000 Charter Member of the Alpha Lambda Lambda Chapter, Frederick, Maryland
and since the charter, has been an active member of the Social Action,
Scholarship, Talent Hunt, Social, and Achievement Week Committees. He has served the Chapter and the Frederick
Community as Budget Committee Chairman for five years; was the first Chapter
Keeper of Finance, serving for three terms; served as Keeper of Records and Seal
for one term; and is currently the Chapter Vice Baselius. Bro. Shelton has been and is active at the
Corridor and District level. He served for
three years as a Deputy Corridor Representative during Brother Milton
Harrison’s (Mu Nu Chapter) tenure as Corridor Representative. At the District level, Brother Shelton served
as the District’s Assistant Keeper of Finance under Brother Kenneth Jackson (Mu
Omega Chapter) and is currently the Chairman of the Budget and Finance
Committee and is the District’s Reward Program Committee Chairman. He has served the District in these two
positions for the last four years.
Brother Shelton has received numerous Basileus and Committee Awards and
has been named Omega Man of the Year in Theta Rho and Alpha Lambda Lambda
Chapters.
Brother Shelton is happily married to his college
sweetheart, Rose Mayshack Shelton, for thirty-one years. They have two sons, Isaac Randolph, 26 and
Marcus Anton, 24 and a daughter-in-law, Allison (Marcus’ wife). Brother Shelton is a member of First Missionary
Baptist Church,
a member of the Trustee Board, and an active member of several church
organizations.
