Bro. Carlton Lampkins, Ed.D.
A proud native of Washington, D. C., Bro. Carlton Lampkins
was born on October 29, 1954. He is the
second of three children born to Ms. Loretha F. Young, also a native
Washingtonian.
After completing his secondary education at the Eastern High School
in Washington, D.C., Bro. Lampkins went on to pursue
postsecondary education. He received his
Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Secondary Education at Daemen College,
Amherst, New York;
Master of Arts degree in Administration and Supervision at The University of
the District of Columbia; and Doctor of
Education degree in Educational Administration from the Virginia Polytechnic
Institute and State University in Blacksburg,
Virginia. He has also studied at Harvard
University in Boston,
Massachusetts and at Oxford
University in London, England.
For the past 29 years, Carlton
has thoroughly enjoyed a stellar career in education. During those years he has taught middle and
high school mathematics and science, and has been a high school assistant
principal, a middle school principal, and a high school principal. He even taught at the Carol Morgan School in
Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and after one year was awarded the 1985 Excellence
in Education Award (i.e., comparable to Teacher of the Year Award). For the last 8 years he has served in the Colonial School District
(New Castle, Delaware) as the Director of School
Leadership, Director of Academics; and currently as the Assistant
Superintendent. Through all the years, Carlton has maintained
the mantra – “It’s about the children!”
Thus, he continues to be successful, as he has not lost sight of the
reasons schools exist!
Carlton
was exposed to Omega through family friends and always had a desire to become a
member of our great organization. His
love for learning and keen understanding of our second cardinal principle,
Scholarship, caused him to focus on pursuing his educational goals as a
priority. However, in 2000 he came to Delaware for a career opportunity and met several “bruhs”
on the Nu Upsilon (Wilmington,
DE) Boat Ride. It was at the 2002 Nu Upsilon Boat Ride that
he inquired about the opportunity to become an Omega Man. The rest is history, as he crossed the
burning sands on Sunday, November 23, 2003, at the age of 49. This experience that is among the top five
highlights of his life!
From the day he became a “Que,” Bro. Lampkins has assumed a
variety of leadership roles in the Nu Upsilon Chapter – assistant to the Vice
Basileus; Vice Basileus; and currently, Basileus. Additionally, he has served as the chairman
of the chapter’s Scholarship and Talent Hunt Committees, and as a member of the
Achievement Week, Sweetheart Ball, Social Actions, Boat Ride, and Theme Parties
Committees. In November 2005, the brothers
of the Nu Upsilon Chapter bestowed upon him the Omega Man of the Year Award for
his relentless efforts, leadership, and hard work.
It was in 2005 that Bro. Lampkins was asked to become the 2nd
District Talent Hunt Chairman. After
three years, the 2nd District Talent Hunt Competition has become one
of the highlights of the 2nd District Conference; brothers of the
Second District actually look forward to the competition!!
As Bro. Lampkins continues his work in Omega, he hopes to
acquire sponsorships, grants, donors, etc. to support the Second District
Talent Hunt Competition, as well as to continue serving our great fraternity
wherever his skills and expertise can contribute to our continual success.
